"Oh god, oh god, oh god." Sally muttered as she ran down Chris' path. She knocked the door violently. It was ten thirty at night in Winter, what was she doing. A tired Chris came to the door. He was wearing just a pair of black cotton boxers but then examined Sally's outfit and decided he looked normal. She was wearing two odd socks, one was up to her kneww and the other only half up her shin, a pair of brown board shorts with white flowers on them and a white bra.
"Errr..... Hi Sally." He yawned. "Am I dreaming?" As he leaned his arms out to hug her with a smile.
"No, you're not." She snapped and just ducked under his arms, into his house. She paced the floor.
"What's up?" He watched her walk up and down his floor.
"Oh God, it's a long story, can I get a cup of tea?" She stopped, realised she hadn't even said hi and hugged him. He held her tight and refused to let her go as he realised what state she was in. If he let her go, she would probably blow up! She tried to let go of him but realised she should probably just let him hold her there. She rapped her arms around his back. Chris looked down at her and kissed her nose.
"Chill, okay?" He whispered. She looked up and he kissed her violently, then resting his chin on her shoulder he spoke softly. "You can explain when you're a little calmer." He kept a straight face even despite her rudeness and quite hilarious appearance. He took her hand, stopped hugging her and lead her to the sofa, she sat down. "Now don't move." His words where comforting to her and he walked into the kitchen and made her a cup of tea.
"Okay, so I was just leaving the park with Laurri and we both crossed the road. She realised she left her keys on the grass and so she ran back to get them and ran across the road to follow me." Sally explained to Chris and he just held her hand and listened. "She didn't look and she was half way accross when....." She was struggling to talk so Chris put one hand on her face and kissed her cheek. "There was a car." Chris looked shocked. "And Laurri didn't see it coming and the drived didn't see her and....." Chris shook his head and pulled Sally's head on to his neck, wrapping the other arm around her back.
"Where is she now, how is she?" Chris questioned.
"She's in hospital." She could barely be heard as her voice was projected into Chris' neck. "They don't know what's going to happen to her." She spoke again.
"Sally?" Chris whispered quietly into her ear. His warm breath made her spine tingle. "Do you want to stay here tonight? My parents are away, I'll sleep on the floor." He closed his eyes and stroked her hair. She nodded. "Okay sweety."
Sally lay still on Chris' bed and listened hard to him breathe on the floor. The pattern was almost rhythmical. No matter how hard she tried, she could not get to sleep. She needed somebody. She stood up without a sound so as not to wake Chris, pulled the cover off the bed and draped it over him. She slid down to the floor and positioned herself next to Chris. Chris noticed she was there and without opening his eyes, he put his arm over her and pulled her a little closer. She felt safe now.
Chris woke up first that morning. The roles had reversed from last night, he was now facing the wall with Sally hugging him from behind. He reached across the floor and grabbed his phone, he began to text Joel. Joel knew all about what happened and he wasn't sure what was going on either. Chris explained about what happened with Sally, and how she had turned up late, just got back from the hospital all shakey. Joel told him the visiting hours and Chris agreed it would be a good idea to go and see her. Sally's arms where warm and comforting so quickly, Chris fell back asleep. After a few minutes, Sally woke. She was comfortable and warm, she kissed Chris' neck and rested her head on his shoulder, he woke back up slowly. "I've been texting Joel." He next turned to face her with her arms around him still. "He doesn't know what's going on either but we are allowed to go and see her if you like?" He looked into her chocolate eyes. She nodded with a small smile. She was now wearing one of Chris' t-shirts which was too big for her but it was warm. She sat up.Chris and Sally walked, hand in hand down the street. She felt better now after a night with Chris, but in all fairness, she always felt better with Chris. They where on the way to the hospital to visit Laurri. It was her birthday tomorrow and terribly bad timing to have had this accident. Joel would probably be there, Sally could do with seeing him aswell. The hospital was only about three minutes from where they were and Sally couldn't wait to see Laurri and find out how she was doing. Chris let go of her hand and repositioned it around her back. She rested her head on his shoulder as they walked.
"She'll be o.k." Chris guessed. She looked up at him as she leaned. His eyes met hers and he reached down and kissed her.
"I hope so." She spoke quietly. He nodded.
When Chris and Sally got to Laurri's bed, Joel was sat there. He had his head down on her bed and she was asleep. "Joel." Chris questioned. He looked almost asleep, with his face pushed into the covers. He obviously hadn't noticed them as when he sat up he looked shocked. His eyes where red but he would never admit if he'd been crying. He rubbed his eyes with the back of his hand and sniffed. "How's she doing?" Chris put his hand on Joel's shoulder.
"Not good." Joel sounded tired.
"What's actually wrong with her?" Chris put his arm around Sally, with his other hand still on Joel.
"Well, it's the same problem I had. Right now, she's in a sort of coma-ey thingy." He wiped his eyes fast before the tear in his left eye fell.
"So, do they know when she's going to wake up?" Chris looked hopefull.
"No." Joel put his head down again. Sally walked over to Joel, sat beside him and rubbed his back.
"Watch it." Chris warned Sally. She threw him a dirty look and focused back on Joel. She leaned down to his level on the bed and put her arm around him. Chris put his hand on her shoulder and pulled her back up. "You don't want to make another problem, Sal." He was right but Joel needed her right now so she grabbed his arm and pushed it off her shoulder. She then pulled Joel up by his arm and hugged him. He hugged her back and she felt his tears on her neck. She whispered something to him. He smiled and hugged her tighter. He closed his eyes tight and thought of good things.
"Joel? Sally? Chris?" The three heard a voice. It was quiet and raspy. Sally stopped hugging Joel and stood up. She looked around. "It is you." sally turned around and then realised who was speaking.
"LAURRI!" She yelled. Joel stood up too and hugged Sally momenterily.
"You where right." He whispered as he pulled away from their hug and bent down to see Laurri.Sally turned to Chris.
"I'm sorry I was ignoring you then but, Joel needed my sympathy." She smiled. Chris didn't. "He was going through something horrible and he really needed me to be there for him." She put her arms out for a hug from Chris. He ignored it.
"So, you knew it was going to annoy me if you went to him, but you still did it." He shook his head. "I don't think so Sally." He stormed out of the hospital. Sally sat on the chair with her head in her hands.
"What happened?" Joel turned back to her.
"Chris doesn't understand the fact I was hugging you because you really needed it." She couldn't talk.
"Oh." Joel frowned. "It was purely out of friendship." He nodded.
"I know but he doesn't realise it." She stood up. "I'm going after him." She too walked out.
Sally knew that every time Chris was upset he would go down to the river. That should be where he was. She ran down the bank and looked around. He was on the other side of the river with lying on his back looking into the sky. She waded through the water and over to him. It was raining heavily already, a little bit of river wouldn't make a differance. She shouted his name. He just lay still. She got out of the river and ran to him. "I love you so much." She shouted as she sat beside him. She had to shout to be heard over the rain. "I wouldn't do it to you again." She leaned over him and kissed his passionately. He opened his eyes and sat up. He sat in shock from that kiss. Eventually, he managed to string a sentance back together.
"How do I know." He lay back down.
"Because I'm your girlfriend and I wont lie to you." She took a pause. "I frikking love you. Joel won't stop or change that." She lent over him again and put her hand on his face. He opened his eyes again and placed his hand on top of hers. She kissed him again. He found himself kissing her back. He didn't want to but it was such an amazing kiss.
"I..... I..... Oh god, I'm trying so hard to hate you, but that was such an amazing kiss, I can't. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is.... I love you." She kissed him once more and smiled. The rain was heavy and her lips where cold. He sat up and took off his jumper. He wrapped it around Sally's bare shoulders and hugged her tight. "I love you." He whispered and they found a tree to shelter under and they wached the rain, falling in the river. It was beautiful.
